With balconies overlooking antique shop-strewn Royal Street, Andrew
Jackson Hotel is a block from Bourbon Street and approximately 15
miles from New Orleans International Airport. Listed on the National
Register of Historic Places, the hotel is within walking distance of
the French Market, Jackson Square, and the Riverfront. The hotel was
the famous courthouse where Major General Andrew Jackson was
indicted for contempt of court and charged with obstruction of
justice. Jackson incurred the charges of obstruction when he
imprisoned the judge who had charged him with contempt. When the
future President of the United States appeared in court, he refused
to answer the interrogatories and promptly received a fine of 1,000.
